1. What conditions benefit from naturopathic health care?

There are natural solutions for many medical health problems. Naturopathy encompasses a wide range of treatments that can help the entire family, from newborns to the elderly. Because naturopathy applies a holistic and preventative approach to treatment, one type of treatment or a combination of therapies may be used for a variety of common health concerns, including:

  • Allergies
  • Cholesterol
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Chronic inflammatory disorders
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Diabetes
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Heart disorders
  • Hormone issues
  • Hypertension
  • Menstrual/Menopausal issues
  • Migraines
  • Skin disorders
  • Thyroid
  • General health optimization and disease prevention

After an initial health consultation, we develop a customized treatment plan for your health concerns. To have your health questions answered, please contact us today.

2.  What training does a traditional naturopath have?

Naturopathic schools are four-year postgraduate schools with minimum admission requirements similar to those of conventional schools.  The naturopathic program requires four years of graduate-level study in sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, chemistry and other clinical sciences.

In addition, naturopaths also receive intensive training in therapeutic nutrition, herbology, iridology, detoxification, botanical medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulative therapy and lifestyle counseling.

3.  How does a typical visit proceed?

A typical initial consultation at Alternative Health Associates, LTD. lasts about 1 1/2 -2 hours in length, during which the doctor will speak to you in great detail about your medical history.  The doctor will perform a consultation and may run an analysis.

The doctor will ask you many questions and be interested in the specific details of your condition and environment.  After your first visit, the doctor will be able to assess your condition and formulate a unique individualized treatment plan, which includes an outline of the frequency of visits/consultations and treatment protocols.  We also work with your conventional doctor to provide adjunctive care if necessary.  A detailed report is often provided following analysis and consultation.

Again, the duration of your treatment will depend upon the severity and complexity of your condition.

4.  How much will my treament cost?

The cost of treatment depends upon the nature and severity of the illness being treated.  During your initial consultation, we will work to identify the specific nature of your health challenge.  Obviously, severe chronic diseases may take longer and cost more to treat than a simple infection, for example.

Of course, treatment plans and options depend upon the level of a patient's commitment to eliminating the root cause of your health problem.  It may take months or years to recover from a chronic disease and realign the body into health.  While supressing symptoms fixes problems quickly, removing the cause of a disease and regaining full function and health is an investment in preventing the furthering of disease and more complicated treatment.

We will always coordinate our treatment plans with your personal goals, outlining and communicating the approximate cost and duration of treatments to ensure that we work with you to achieve optimal health.

5.  Will my treatment be covered by insurance?

Coverage for naturopathic services depends upon which insurance provider you have and the type of policy providing coverage.  Some insurance providers allow for coverage of naturopathic services under flex-care spending accounts.  Since insurance coverage changes often, it is best to check with your insurance company--or give us a call for more information.

Our staff and our patients strongly believe that investing in your health is one of the most important and successful investments you can make.  Only you can decide what is worth this investment.  But, as you think about the possible "out-of-pocket" expenses for natural health care, consider:

  • Can you afford to be sick?  When you get sick and remain sick, it costs you time away from work.  With many jobs, if you don't work, you don't get paid.  Even if you have paid sick leave, you will likely have to work more or longer hours to catch upon the work that is still there.  If becoming healthy through preventative, natural health care allows you to avoid being sick, you have more than covered your naturopathic bill.
  • Prevention is less expensive than a cure.  If you are able to lower your prescription medication costs, or are able to take fewer supplements or fewer over-the-counter medications, you will be able to cover your naturopathic bill.
  • In the long run, if you achieve benefits through preventative, natural care, the overall health effects could be significant.  Invest in yourself today and you will see a payoff in the future.
