Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Although everyone is familiar with the cardiovascular, respiratory or circulatory systems, many of us are not aware of the importance to the body of the cranio-sacral system - the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the area adjoining the bones of the skull, face and mouth - which makes up the cranium and the spinal column that extends down to the sacrum. Like other systems of the body, the cranio-sacral system influences many body functions. An imbalance in the system can affect the brain and spinal cord, which can result in sensory, motor or intellectual dysfunctions.
Cranio-sacral therapy is a gentle and relaxing technique. By using very light pressure in the form of weights (under five grams - approximately the weight of a nickel), we release restrictions and tightness in the muscles of the head and neck to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
Because cranio-sacral thereapy increases the body's ability to bolster resistance to disease, it is being used increasingly as a preventive health measure. It is effective for a wide scope of medical problems, including: migraine headaches, chronic neck and back pain; colic; learning disabilities such as dyslexia; chronic fatique; and emotional difficulties or stress and tension-related problems. |
