1. What conditions benefit from naturopathic health care?
There are natural solutions for many medical health problems. Naturopathy encompasses a wide range of treatments that can help the entire family, from newborns to the elderly. Because we apply a holistic and preventative approach to treatment, one type of treatment or a combination of therapies may be used for a variety of common health concerns, including:
  • Allergies
  • Cholesterol
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Chronic inflammatory disorders
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Diabetes
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Heart disorders
  • Hormone issues
  • Hypertension
  • Menstrual/Menopausal issues
  • Migraines
  • Skin disorders
  • Thyroid issues
  • General health optimization and disease prevention
After an initial health consultation, we develop a customized treatment plan for your health concerns.

2. What schooling and training does a Naturopathic Doctor have?
Naturopathic schools are four year post-graduate schools with admission requirements similar to those of conventional medical schools. The naturopathic program requires four years of graduate-level study in sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, chemistry and other clinical sciences. In addition, naturopaths also receive intensive training in therapeutic nutrition, herbology, iridology, detoxification, botanical medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulative therapy and lifestyle counseling.

3. What is a typical visit like and what can I expect?
An initial consultation at Alternative Health Associates can expect to last about 1.5-2 hours, during which the doctor will speak to you in great detail about your medical history. The doctor will ask you many questions on the specific details of your condition and environment. After your first visit, the doctor will be able to assess your condition and formulate a unique individualized treatment plan, which includes an outline of the frequency of visits and treatment protocols. A detailed report is often provided following analysis and consultation. We also work with your conventional doctor to provide adjunctive care if necessary. 4. How much will my treament cost?
The cost of treatment depends upon the severity and complexity of the illness being treated. During your initial consultation, we will work to identify the specific nature of your health challenge.

We will always coordinate our treatment plans with your personal goals, outlining and communicating the approximate cost and duration of treatments to ensure that we work with you to achieve optimal health.

Something to think about: Can you afford to be sick? When you get sick and remain sick, it costs you time away from work and ultimately money. If getting healthy through preventative well care allows you to avoid being sick, you have more than outweighed the expense of being sick.

5. Will my visit be covered by insurance?
Coverage for naturopathic services depends upon which insurance provider you have and the type of policy providing coverage. Some insurance providers allow for coverage of naturopathic services under flex-care spending accounts. Since insurance coverage changes often, it is best to check with your insurance company, or give us a call for more information. Our staff and our patients strongly believe that investing in your health is one of the most important and successful investments you can make. Only you can decide what is worth this investment. But, as you think about the possible "out-of-pocket" expenses for natural health care, consider investing in yourself today and so you will see a payoff in the future.
